Help me give my students microphones, paint, chart paper, ink, and laminating pouches.

"A teacher affects eternity: he can never tell where his influence stops" (Henry Adams). This quote has profound implications, and can act as a sobering agent for teachers. From my perspective, this means that I must take every opportunity to create the best experiences for my students. My students are curious, excited, interested, flexible, resilient, and deserving of my best effort.
My students look forward to sharing their ideas during class discussions, receiving feedback about what they have said and done, spending time with their friends at school, talking about what happened over the weekend, and being appreciated and loved.
Against that background, the experiences my students receive at school must promote their development in these areas.
My students like when their teachers and peers listen to them. Although they are engaged in conversations throughout the day, there are a few special times when we meet as a class. On these occasions (morning meeting, read-aloud time, closing circle, and class discussions), students have the opportunity to share their ideas with the entire class. The microphones will work as encouragement to those students who may need some support speaking loudly enough to be heard by everyone. The chart paper will be the place where the teacher records the words that the children say, so that they can reference their words at a later date.
When students know that their words are valued, their self-esteem and self-confidence will be higher.
When their self-esteem and self-confidence are high, they will perform better academically. The paint will allow my students to express themselves through art, and when their artwork is displayed in the classroom, they will feel a sense of pride. That pride will translate into happier, more productive students. The ink will be for printing students' words to be displayed in the classroom and hallways, and for printing class newsletters. These will also serve to demonstrate how important their words and actions are, since they will be displayed for parents and others to see. The laminating pouches will be for preserving/strengthening their pictures that are used on a daily basis for the job chart, choice chart, and sign-in.
Although these items may not readily present themselves as academic items, the impact they will have on my students will have academic ramifications.
