Help me give my students the tools that they need to be successful in reading and math as we practice daily.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school in SE Washington, DC, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I would like to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
I want our computer lab to allow students to use the Samsung and Kindle Fire tablets and Apple Ipads every day in my classroom.
In the computer lab, students will receive their reading and math assessments. They also are able to advance in ST MATH, Lexia Core 5, Zearn, iready, Get Epic and much more by practicing daily on specific websites and apps. With the use of tablets, and iPads, students will be able to master levels on various educational websites to prepare them for PARCC. My inquisitive scholars are consumers of information, knowledge and ideas that will help them as they grow in learning different subjects.
In the lab, students receive the opportunity to ask questions and have discussions about various topics that range from math and reading to help prepare for PARCC. They will also use them to learn how to type and research when we do various reports and projects.
In a community where the people, especially the children, are under-served, the Kindle Fires, Apple Ipads and Samsung tablets will allow for students to be exposed to computer technology by taking advantage of text-to-speech, a necessary key to success in our technology class. Students can hear and see the text at the same time. These tools can help reinforce the skills of those that may struggle and need and extra push. My project will allow scholars to receive everyday practice in building their reading and math skills. They will also be able to build their typing skills and researching the internet as well. By practicing daily scholars will be able to build their on different educational websites and apps such as Get Epic, Lexia, ST Math, Zearn and many others on the Kindle Fire, Apple Ipads and Samsung tablets. I have noticed that technology is a fun way of teaching students. Students love to engage in educational apps as well.
