My Students

My school is located in Columbus County of southeastern North Carolina. My classroom serves a diverse group of students of at least four races, who most come from low-income families. This diverse group of students also range from academically gifted to students who are below grade level. Some of the students also have learning and/or behavioral disabilities.

Despite their diversity, all my students are well-deserving of receiving the best educational opportunity possible.

These students come to school with a desire to learn and I hope to provide them with engaging and interactive learning experiences.

My Project

The Amazon Fire Kids Tablets are preloaded with children’s books and more ebooks can be added. My number one goal is to create a desire for students to want to read more through the use of technology. Students love computer time and the tablets would motivate them to want to read using the tablets. My second goal is to use the tablets as a learning station during reading and math. The tablets have educational apps that promote individual learning with oral reading fluency, phonics, fact fluency, word problems, etc. The teacher can download more apps as needed but students’ access to the internet can be restricted to hold them accountable to their task at hand, as opposed to them working on programs on regular computers.
