My students need engaging games and books to learn beginning reading skills. Showing kids who come from a difficult home life that learning can be fun!
Over the past 8 years I have worked in my current position as a reading specialist in a high poverty, low income title 1 school. The students I meet with on a daily basis have many challenges outside of their school day which impact their learning throughout their school day.
Although my students have a lot of trauma in their lives, they are the most motivated, respectful, and delightful children to be around.
Their smiles and excitement towards learning melt my heart! My wish for them as their teacher is to do all I can to keep that love of reading instilled in them as they grow all throughout life.
My Project
I along with many colleagues support hundreds of students in a title one school. Students we work with are well below grade level standards and are unmotivated to read and engage in activities revolves around reading. My students need games and activities that focus on the alphabet, letter recognition, rhyming, vowel practice, etc. By having these fun learning games and books to support the skills from these games, I know my kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students will be more likely to grow as readers and have fun doing so! These students will truly be so appreciative as will I!
