Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are mostly from low-income families that live in a gang-infested, poverty-stricken environment. They face many challenges on a daily basis. My students struggle with feeling safe, whether they are sitting on the front porch or walking to school.

My job is to make them feel safe at school as well as to give them hope that they can overcome any situation.

Every day, I encourage my students to be a catalyst for change in their school, home, and their environment. My students know that they can overcome anything if they try.

My Project

The Science World Magazine subscription will have a tremendous impact on my classroom.

First of all, the students will be exposed to current events in science that are supported by STEM and Next Generation Science Standards.

With this exposure, students will be able to make connections to real-world issues and apply them to their life. Students will also be able to carry out STEM challenges with their new background knowledge.

The Science World Magazine subscription also provides students with the opportunity to practice literacy skills by reading informational texts and completing language arts activities. The Science World Magazine features videos to provide and enhance prior knowledge.
