Our school, teachers, and our 7th grade students are hard-working and innovative! Although we don't always get enough funding for all our activities, we ALWAYS do our best with what we DO have and are extremely grateful for the items and experiences we are granted.
My students belong to a multi-cultural, broad socio-economic Houston school in the far northern part of the city.
Labs, group work, and craft-activities are part of our everyday life. These activities are a classroom favorite but they are sometimes difficult to fund.
My Project
I teach in one of the oldest school buildings in our District. While we have tried really hard to keep up with new technology, it is difficult to fund the most up to date items for our entire staff, and students. I look forward to a versatile device that can be used by the students to film, edit, and present projects using interactive software.
When I saw that Microsoft had a special with DonorsChoose.org for a Surface Pro, I knew that I wanted to create a project that would jump me into the ranks of the teachers with the best of devices to create awesome lessons for my kids!
I've found that you CAN teach an 'old dog' new tricks, as I am constantly learning technology hacks from my team mates, and students as well. I already use my personal phone to take pictures of student work, projects, and activities to upload and share on Twitter. Students tend to have knowledge of the latest and greatest apps, but not always a reliable computer to practice with.
A new Microsoft Surface Go, and accessories will put me well on my way to learning new and innovative things, and sharing with my students!
