The children in my class are, to me, the most INCREDIBLE kids in world! My class, consisting of 13 boys and 7 girls, come from all different socioeconomic backgrounds and life experiences. All of my students qualified for Head Start services for various reasons (low socioeconomic status, being in single parent homes, being in foster homes, having special mental health needs, having educational disabilities, etc.), but those factors have not stopped them from blossoming at school one bit! It is my goal and hope to be able to offer as many learning opportunities as I can to my students so that they can have experiences that they may otherwise never have had. The parents and guardians of my students are rock stars! We have had incredible guardian participation at parent trainings and with class projects or events. Many parents have become employed or enrolled in school this year in hopes of better supporting their children and families. I love being a part of helping these children qualified as "at risk" get a head start at such an important time in their development and growth!
My students have spent much of this school year learning about living things, community helpers, responsibilities, how to play well, and crucial beginning reading and math skills. I believe this trip will make all these skills and more come to life to help these kiddos walk away from their Pre-K year being truly prepared and ready for Kindergarten and beyond. A trip like this one will certainly be unforgettable and will be the beginning of many other real-world learning experiences that they will have in the future. It is my hope that my class will grow in confidence and maturity by taking a special trip like this one and be inspired to think about the future they would like to have one day! They may not all become farmers or ranchers like the people we'll meet, but they will certainly be inspired to work hard and follow their dreams like our friends at Wits End Ranch.
