My students are part of an amazing school that has a strong sense of inclusion. My students are truly diverse, living in Maine, but 33% of them come from different countries around the world. They help each other succeed in my class, and they are enthusiastic about learning another language! Spanish is the second language for many, but the third, fourth or fifth language for others.
My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of preguntas (questions)!
Each child in my classroom has embraced learning Spanish, although the methods in which they learn best vary greatly for each. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, from group work to individual work, from songs to skits, and from creating our own stories in Spanish to reading a story, to ensure that each student's needs are met! They are truly incredible students, and I feel fortunate to teach them Spanish!
My Project
In order to continue enhancing my students' learning in Spanish class, we need some materials to help us not only succeed, but to shine! I often use mini white boards in a game format, so kids can share their knowledge when they are not ready to speak the language yet. I give them sentences, and they draw pictures, or I use them as way to check in and see what they know. The problem is that I only have a handful of white boards, so they have to work in groups of 4. It would be more fun, and a better representation of individual knowledge, if they each had their own board.
Additionally, I have requested supplies for my classroom, because my students are super creative, and they need to have paper, and colors and pencils in order to create Spanish projects.
You wouldn't believe the amazing projects my students have already created to display their knowledge of Spanish! I have also requested some specific Spanish language materials to supplement the many homemade activities that I have created.
