Oils for Slippery Times

Help me give my students oil painting supplies for a post-COVID art program with brushes and easels to go along with it.

My Students

My students are juniors and seniors at an alternative high school. Before attending the school they were credit deficient and in danger of not graduating from high school. They were referred from the traditional high schools in our county to our school, in many cases, this is their last chance to graduate with a high school diploma.

Many of the students are from lower-income families and have faced trauma in their lives.

Often, their socio-economic situation and lack of stable home life impede their efforts to attend school regularly. Many students need to work to provide for themselves and contribute to their family finances. Others deal with substance abuse personally or with a parent. Our small school gives them a place to find consistency and a sense of belonging.

My Project

I am a first-year teacher at my present school and inherited an art program that requires me to teach painting with no oil paints, no oil painting brushes, and not enough painting easels for every student.

The art supplies will greatly benefit an art show that I plan to have for the students at a gallery space in our city offices.

These materials will open up the possibility that most students have never had before- painting a picture with oil paints and actually selling them in a gallery space. Thank you!
