I am a second-grade teacher in a small town with about 95 percent of the population being Native American. My students and their families qualify for free and reduced lunches. Despite all their daily obstacles they are resilient and strive for any learning opportunity. My students are very hands-on and love to dive right into new and engaging projects.
My students are enthusiastic, creative, and are motivated to explore daily, academic challenges.
I try to expose them to the world around them by introducing them to many classroom projects that allow them to think outside the box. I have purchased many supplies for my students and classroom that encourage them to think outside the box. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My Project
I have been trying to help my students heal from this year's trauma from last year's pandemic. Providing the opportunity to run and play daily is a great way to address it. I am focusing on healing before focusing on their "learning loss." When the pandemic hit our school and students, I threw away our shared outdoor recess equipment. We still are wearing masks daily, washing our hands and sanitizing through out the day.
Recess is the best time for children to connect with their peers and engage meaningful and recreational play.
It is time for my students to build relationships together. I feel it is time to purchase new outdoor recess equipment. The new balls will allow them to play games with others. The jump ropes can encourage small group or large group play. The home plate and bases can be used for kickball, a game my students love. The cones will ensure safety zones and designated play zones.
