My Students

As the dance educator at my elementary school, I am able to share my love of the performing arts with my students. For our school musical "The Lion King" I will be working with 40 students from grades 3 thru 5. For most of our students, this will be their first school musical!

This group of students is highly creative, risk-takers and hard-working.

This performing arts opportunity is important to our student population since they have very limited access to the performing arts outside of our school dance program. The majority of our students come from low-income homes, have recently immigrated from another country and are learning a new language. Rarely, do students in our school have the

resources to attend after school programs or take recreational classes outside of school. Therefore, our school does its best to provide diverse experiences for all of our students to expose them to something beyond their everyday world.

My Project

This year our school was selected to participate in Disney Musicals in Schools, a program that teaches and creates a sustainable musical theater program in elementary schools. This year for our first school musical "The Lion King Kids", we are in need of sound equipment and art materials to make our design vision come to life. Our school auditorium is in need of microphones and sound equipment to allow our students' voices to be heard during their performance. The sound equipment will teach our students about the stage and sound production aspect of musical theater. The art materials will be used to teach our students about costume and set design. With these materials, they will be able to use their creativity and artistic abilities to create their envisioned world on stage. Ultimately, it will help us to tell our story and bring a magical scene to life! The goal of this project is to empower teachers and students to learn skills to build a sustainable musical theater production. These materials will be used for many performances, year after year.
