My students need the opportunity to have flexible seating due their high energy levels and ADHD. By having flexible seating options, students will be able to find the best seating to enhance their learning.
I teach a 2nd and 3rd grade split class. Due to limited funding, this is the second year I have taught a split classroom. Our school is a Title 1 school. Most of my students come from struggling home environments. This is mostly due to the lack of employment in our area or the issue of substance abuse. There are students in my classroom that are being raised by other family members, such as grandparents, due to parents not being able to take care of their child due to various reasons. With the increase of students having a hard time sitting in a traditional seating arrangement due to high energy levels (fidgeting) and ADHD, I would like to offer my students more opportunity with flexible seating. I love that my students always try to do their best even though they are dealing with personal issues. Since the students in my classroom work very hard to do their best, I would like accommodate their learning styles by providing a flexible seating opportunity for all the students, especially for the ones who struggle with fidgeting and ADHD.
My Project
The flexible seating options will allow students to have a more comfortable learning environment. The chair ball with feet will allow students to have a range of motion at their desk, in the reading center, or at the small group table to help increase attention. The stability chair ball will allow students who need back support the same range of motion opportunity. The Happy World rug will provide a comfortable place to sit while using the portable lap desk since we have tile floors. Students will also be able to use the lap desk while sitting on a chair. The lap desk will allow students to sit someplace other than a desk or table to use the Chromebook or write. Students who feel more comfortable sitting in a chair will be able to use the inflatable seat cushion.
