Oh, the Things You Can Think! When You Learn to Read...
My students need Hot Dots Power Pens, Hot Dots Phonics Quiz Cards, Tactile Sight Word cards, Gel Writing Boards and Tutor Sight Word Sets to help our hands-on learners!
Reading is literally the foundation of ALL education. Many of my students need more than traditional educational tools. Hands on experiences will aid them as they strive to read.
Our kindergarten class is a diverse group of students from varied ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Each of my students brings their own unique blend of academic strengths and weaknesses. Our school is a charter school in an agriculturally oriented community. We are only four years old, currently housed in portables. We are slowly building our resources. Despite some limitations in our facilities and equipment, we are an A+ rated school!
My Project
Imagine the sense of accomplishment my students will have when they REALLY understand and are able to read independently.... when they understand that the letters b-a-l-l, are not just a grouping of random letters, but represent the concept of what they play with everyday at recess! When a child hears something, they only retain a very small portion of what was said - but if hearing is paired with DOING - their retention rate increases dramatically. These tools are designed to help every student, but especially the child who is a more kinesthetic - hands on - tactile learner.
Building a strong foundation in reading is critical to all academic success.
These hands on learning tools, whether sight word puzzles or gel writing boards are designed to work with the child who needs hands on reinforcement. Every child will benefit from a varied approach to teaching and learning. These tools will allow me to meet the children at their level of need and help them lay the foundation for future success that solid reading abilities will afford!
