My Students

Students at my school come from diverse backgrounds. The demographic structure of my school is approximately 44% Asian, 38% Hispanic or Latino, 9% Filipino, 5% White, 1% African American, and 3% other ethnicities including multiple. Approximately 23% of students are English Learners and 16% are Students with Disabilities. Students value each other's ideas and appreciate differences. They are full of curiosity and motivation.

Students have opportunities to demonstrate critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.

To this end, we strive to create lifelong learners by guiding each child to reach their full potential to compete in a global society in a confident, capable, and compassionate manner by providing challenging, cooperative, problem-based learning activities that enable students to apply their knowledge to real-life applications.

My Project

Since the beginning of the school year, my students have developed great stamina in reading independently. Everyday, students look forward to independent reading during Reader’s Workshop. With book bins, each student can organize their books and take their bins anywhere in our flexible seating classroom for independent reading. They can even take it outdoors to recess, making transporting easy! Their book bins have labels so students can distinguish which book bin is theirs. Students will take pride in reading.

Reading opens students’ mind and imagination.

Research shows that there are many benefits to reading. First of all, student engagement increases. The choice is theirs. Students have choice of what goes in their book bins-magazines, comics, chapter books, nonfiction books, etc. Therefore, the love of reading also increases because of student choice. As student engagement increases, so does their reading skills. Students develop improved comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency.
