Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students' families struggle to provide the supplies needed for school. We need as many basic supplies as possible to lessen this strain on families. Students in my class need everything from pencils to glue sticks to paper. A huge help would be high interest reading books!! As a new teacher, my library is lacking terribly! I truly believe reading is key to being successful for any path we choose in life. We need to teach students that reading is fun and we can do that by providing them with book choices they'll actually enjoy reading . Growing our classroom library will provide the students with various book options, which will hopefully help spark an interest and love for learning. Students need to learn how to read, enhance their comprehension, and sustain fluency. My students need a place where we can move around the classroom freely and learn in the way that is best for them. I believe having a rolling cart and floor seats will be wonderful for my students. I have found that students learn better when they can choose where they get to sit. Basic essentials like chart paper would be helpful as well!!!
My Project
Using the Classic Royal Reading Writing Center we can work anywhere in the room and students can be comfortable. In a self-contained classroom, I have found that students work best with modified seating arrangements such a a wobble chair or blow up cushion. These seating options allow them to focus on the task at hand instead of feeling the urge to jump out of their seats. In addition, I have included fidget manipulatives that I have found very effective in many classrooms. These sensory objects allow for students with special needs to focus while keeping their hands occupied. The books chosen are highly rated books for students with special needs, as they teach important life skills. In addition other high interest book series have been chosen based on suggestions from previous students and teachers.
