Our classroom provides a safe place for children to learn and explore. Roald Dahl said, "The more risks you allow children to take, the better they learn to take care of themselves."
My classroom is full of energized first graders, ready to move and learn.
They have high energy levels and are never lacking when it comes to participation. Our day consists of learning through cooperative learning, teamwork, whole group, and individual learning. I like to mix it up!
Our students are diverse and come from many backgrounds and ethnicities. All of our students participate in our school's free or reduced-price lunch program.
My Project
First graders need to learn sight words in order to gain the foundation needed to become strong fluent readers before entering into the 2nd grade. This program will be utilized in small group readers workshop rotations and whole group learning and become a part of our classroom word wall. The pocket chart in our order cart will house all of our growing words!
SnapWords rocks in the area of sight word identification by using visuals and movement which will help those students who cannot remember their words.
This program is fantastic in that students learn to identify their sight words with not only pictures but with body movements as well!
This type of presentation carries right-brained hooks essential to visual and kinesthetic learners. SnapWords are essentially pictures embedded within the words themselves, which also have a related body movement. How much fun are we going to have learning our words!!!
