Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Arriving at a young age to this country, I was faced with the struggle of learning another language. I was able to understand new concepts my teachers were teaching me because they used manipulatives that helped engage me and solidify understanding that would have been more difficult if they hadn't used those materials. I began my education in the United States at the age of 14, and I know that giving my current students these same opportunities in third grade will make an even bigger difference in their lives.

My students are special because they are unique, smart, and kind, and they are learning another language; they are full of energy and dreams.

My class is made up of a mix of Hispanic students and native English speakers. My school district has implemented a Spanish dual-immersion program. The students are taught 50% in Spanish and the other 50% in English. It is very amazing to see third grade students interact in another language that it is not English.

Our school is a Title I school with 50% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

I have had try some reading bins and had been falling apart. It would be really nice to have new book boxes for my students. The students will be able to use it without falling apart. The ones that I am asking for are going to be very durable and stable. A great feature it is going to be that are going to be connected to my students snap boomerang desks. Therefore, all of their materials would stay in and not fall out. The materials that will keep in their book box will include a math notebook, math folder, math notebook, reading notebook and much more!
