Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students are English Language Learners and come from low-income families. My students are hungry to learn about new things every day and often encourage me to find more challenging activities.
Our school is considered a Title I campus which means the majority of our families qualify for free and reduced-price lunch, and this year 100% of our students qualify for this program.
Our parents are hard working individuals and who are constantly supportive of what we do! Despite some parents who are single parents, working double shifts or graveyard shifts, and much more, our parents are constantly supporting our goals and expectations for our students. Our campus is truly an amazing place for students, parents, and staff to be.
My students are challenged every day in my class. I am constantly looking for lessons and activities that inspire their learning and imagination. I challenge my students to explore and question everything about learning because school should be a place of excitement and curiosity.
My Project
This year, 100% of our students qualified for FREE breakfast and lunch. My students truly need snacks in the afternoon. Every day since we have started school my students are constantly asking for snacks in the afternoon because they are hungry. The majority of my students don't get home until after 5:00 PM. So in reality, without a snack in the afternoon, they would have to wait almost 6 hours before having another meal.
I want to help my students concentrate on learning instead of worrying about when they will be able to eat again.
I want to provide the essentials for my students to feel safe and take care of when they are in my classroom. Please help me provide snacks for my students for their success in school.
