This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I truly love all of my students like they are my own. I teach at a Title I campus with 60% of students economically disadvantaged. My students are a diverse bunch and vary in learning styles. Even though they are faced with obstacles daily they are hard-workers and eager to learn.
I want to give my students a classroom library that is inviting with high-quality leveled books that represent different genres and text complexities.
Many may believe that having an area in the classroom with books available for students is sufficient enough to improve student's literacy development, but it is not. "Quality classroom libraries have certain characteristics and design features that strongly influence whether or not the classroom library may be used to their full potential to improve children's reading performance" (Neuman). For this reason, I want to not just have an area with books but a classroom library with leveled books that will help improve my student's literacy development.
My Project
There is no doubt how beneficial a classroom library has on learners. The use of leveled books will have a tremendous impact on each and every one of my students. The high-quality books, ranging from 4th grade to 7th grade, will be used on a daily basis. Everyday my students will have a variety of leveled books to choice from to help them improve their vocabulary knowledge, fluency, and comprehension.
By donating to my project, you will not only be helping students enhance their literacy development, you will ultimately help ignite student's interest and enthusiasm towards reading.
Help me turn my student's classroom library into an area where there aren't just books, but a place that is organized with a diversity of leveled books!
