My Students

Remember playing those tiny xylophones in elementary school? You learned music reading, coordination, how to create a beautiful sound, and how to play an instrument all at once. My students have not yet had those experiences because of the cost of the instruments.

Our students are kind, hard working kids who face a lot of challenges.

Most come from low income, African American families and live in the neighborhoods surrounding the school. They adapt wonderfully to the rules of school with lots of positive reinforcement, and kind words. The school consistently meets state testing standards, because my colleagues are always trying new things to make learning fun!

My Project

I remember an old saying that says, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” Carl Orff pioneered a method of teaching to involve students in learning music, and created kid-sized versions of xylophones to help kids create music of their own. With a set of Orff instruments for our students, every kid in school can be a composer! Help us play our way to understanding rhythm, music literacy, improvisation and composition! Every kid loves playing instruments, and these instruments can help transform our students into lifelong, musical learners.

These instruments will stay with the school for years and years to come.

Countless little hands will learn to hold the mallets properly and to make a beautiful sound. Your generosity can touch hundreds of students right now, and infinitely more in the future. Every little bit helps!
