Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students in our school come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and many of them qualify for free and reduced lunch. They are an eager group of learners that enjoy learning in new and innovative ways. One of the ways we have helped our students become innovative learners is through our new STEM lab which we are calling the ICE Box which stands for Imagine, Create, and Explore. Through the ICE Box students are able to learn more about coding and engineering through play and imagination.

My Project

We are just getting started with our school STEM lab which we are calling the ICE Box which stands for Imagine, Create, and Explore. We would like to incorporate OSMO learning stations as part of the lab. With OSMO, students will manipulate physical tiles which are read by the iPad and allow students to play different games. Students will be able to practice math facts, spelling, and shapes using tangrams. We are also incorporating coding skills through Coding Awbie and Coding Jam. OSMO Pizza Company allows students to practice fractions skills and making change with money. The OSMO center will be used by students in grades K-5 at our school on a daily basis.
