Mrs. Cobb from Savannah GA is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 20 properly sized chairs such as the economical, ergonomic Classroom Select sixteen-inch soft plastic chair which will support the children’s backs.

Our need could not be more basic - chairs! My second grade students sit in chairs designed for preschool children. Imagine the discomfort of sitting nearly six hours a day in a chair far too small for your body!
I teach second grade in a high poverty school in Georgia.
Though I have requested appropriately sized chairs for four years, budget cuts have slashed funds to purchase any extra furniture. Watch any child on a playground and you will see their bodies are made for moving, not sitting. Despite my efforts to provide as much movement as possible into the school day, the students are still required to sit for three-fourths of the day in these tiny chairs. Having noticed that the students constantly push away from the table and rock back in the chairs, I found that they are actually taking pressure off the underside of the thigh(femoral artery).
I can only imagine the impact properly sized chairs will have on my eager students. I engage my students in many small group activities in which they may choose where to work. The majority of students opt for working on the floor with clipboards rather than remain in uncomfortable, twelve-inch chairs. My husband has made a bench and some stools to provide alternative places to sit, but nothing can replace a chair designed for your body size, rather than someone much smaller than yourself.
Physical comfort is critical to the process of learning.
Seventy-five percent of the disruption and disagreements among my students are due to the lack of room to move. The economical, ergonomic Classroom Select sixteen-inch soft plastic chair will support the children’s backs while alleviating the students’ leg discomfort. Surely, this essential item will boost the learning potential of the students. Children in my class will be grateful for years to come and so will their teacher!
