This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are very interested in learning. I teach at a Title I school in Georgia where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many students at my school receive backpack food on the weekend. My students face so much adversity in their neighborhoods on a daily basis that school is their only outlet. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their very best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful in life.
My Project
I suspect that the majority of my students don't get enough food at home. They take food off other students' plate while they are eating lunch. When I correct them and tell them not to do things like that, they say: I am so hungry. Your donation of goldfish crackers, chips, Cheez-It, cereal, nutria-grain bars, fruit snacks, and all types of treats, will help fill their bellies until they get home. I have noticed that if a child is hungry, they cannot function on anything else. Learning cannot take place. I am asking for your help to ensure that my students will have enough snacks to curb their hunger.
