This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special kiddos. They love school, learning, moving to centers experiencing hands on learning. They get very frustrated with the hard seats and desks that don't fit their needs. At least 3/4 of my students are from low income families. All children receive free breakfast and lunch.
My class is made up of 14 K-2 special needs kiddos, that absolutely fill my heart with joy each day.
Many of the students are ASD and Cognitively impaired. I love making their school days special as they smile and feel accomplished!
My Project
I am excited to begin changing my traditional rows of metal desks and chairs to alternative seating, which is an effective strategy to assist the nervous system in regulating the wiggles and helping students to stay focused.
The alternative seating that I am beginning to add to the clasroom, will transform traditional seating into active opportunities that the kiddos can safely wiggle while working.
The variety of alternative seats will be an outlet for restlessness and extra energy.
My students love the two beanbags that we have in the room now! I look forward to sharing this exciting project with them and watching how their eyes light up with excitement as the materials arrive!!
