Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a 1st grade teacher of the gifted in a Title I school in Florida. Our area has many immigrants from the Caribbean. Kendall is a small suburb of Miami, Florida rich with culture. Our school is a Title I school, meaning more than 75% of our students come from low income homes. We also have a majority of students who are English Language Learners (ELL).
As a teacher of the gifted, my students think differently than other students.
They love to learn and are enthusiastic with their successes. They are bright, kind and energetic. They love learning hands-on and discovering new things.
My Project
Can you imagine walking into your classroom and being transported to the African Savannah? Can you imagine the excitement and eagerness of students as they learn about the animals, habitats and cultures from Africa by being fully immersed? I can just hear the excitement! Classroom transformations give students the opportunity to be fully immersed in the topics that we will be studying.
My students need an exciting and engaging way to learn!
These materials will enhance the research projects. Backdrops, books, cutouts, tablecloths, themed party decor, and a variety of props will help transform our plain Jane classroom into a magical escape!
