As a speech language pathologist in an elementary school, I'm privileged to work with boys and girls in grades kindergarten through fifth. My students come from culturally diverse backgrounds and have various disabilities, to include: Autism, ADHD, Fragile X Syndrome, Hearing Impairment, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disability, language delays, articulation/phonology delays, oral motor deficits, and stuttering. In spite of any disabilities, my students are some of the most creative and energetic children that I have ever worked with in my career.
My Project
My students have goals & objectives for each speech therapy session to address articulation, language, fluency or behavior deficits. Part of building students' awareness of their progress is to chart where they began with a skill and show them how far they have grown, so they can feel successful. Use of the ink cartridge, paper and highlighters will allow my students to print out various charts & highlight their progress of so that they can track their correct productions of articulation sounds, accuracy of language concepts, ability to increase on-task behaviors and the reduced occurrence of dysfluencies within the speech therapy setting. This will be an enriching learning experience for my students so their confidence will be off the charts!
