This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? I teach an 11th grade American Literature course. My students live in a high-need community and often times do not have the supplies they need to be successful in the classroom.
Our school needs 28 copies of "Of Mice and Men" so that our students will be able to thoroughly study the text both at home and in class.
The English department would like to add a new novel to the 11th grade curriculum, but we don't any copies of "Of Mice and Men" to distribute to our students.
My Project
Our school is a magnet school and has a special focus for visual and performing arts. Students at this school have a special interest in visual and performing arts. They are artists, musicians, painters, singers, actors, etc. Because the school is so focused in the arts, the English department does not always have the materials or supplies needed for success. I want my young artists to flourish not only in the arts, but in English as well.
If we have the "Of Mice and Men" novels to begin a new curriculum unit, all of my students will have the opportunity to read, comprehend, and analyze the novel in great detail.
I want my bright, young students to succeed in English. And, to do that, they must have books!
Your donations will ensure that my students will have the materials they need in order to be successful. I know the students will love "Of Mice and Men" if they are given the opportunity to read and study it.
