Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My sixth-grade students are so eager to learn and want nothing more than to be loved by their classmates and teachers. All of my students are diverse learners; many come from another country or are first-generation Americans. These students are extremely diverse in terms of academic ability. My students with special needs include students with autism, learning disabilities, ADHD, and social/emotional disabilities. This diversity is great, but as a teacher, it can be a challenge to reach all my students when they are at different levels academically.
My goal is to make sure that all students, regardless of where they are academically, have all the tools they need to be successful and become life-long learners.
Our wonderful school is in a high poverty area. Ninety percent of our 1,300 students receive free breakfast and lunch. They are polite, well-mannered, hard-working students who come from good homes.
My Project
All of my students receive individualized interventions to meet their specific needs. These interventions are most effective when students attend school daily and are healthy! Research suggests that students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance.
As a Chicago Public School, we are faced with budget cuts that prevent us from having a budget for basic necessities to keep us healthy.
These supplies will help my students stay healthy and focused on their goals by preventing illnesses through the use of Lysol wipes, cough drops and tissues.
We recently received Hot Dots activity cards and my students just love them. They are learning so much with them and beg to use them everyday. We only have two of the specific pens that work with the cards so we want to expand our collection with more pens and cards, so that more students can take advantage of this wonderful asset to our classroom. These pens use batteries so we need those also. My girls are in love with the Smile series so I want to get four new novels so they can check them out to read at home. They are so motivated to read when they get new books that they really want. These supplies will help maintain a healthy and happy classroom environment for my students, which keeps them learning year-round.
