Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Thus far, I have 18 very special students in my class. Ten have varying degrees of special needs and the others serve as "role models." Some of my students are with me for a second year as they started off last year as three year olds. It was a pleasure to see these students run into the class with great enthusiasm; a sign that their first year had been a success.
Since most of my students are experiencing school for the first time I have a deep sense of responsibility to make sure they enjoy coming to class each day, that they leave with great memories and develop a love for learning.
Providing a safe and pleasant environment filled with multiple supplies and manipulatives goes a long way to facilitate learning and developing the social skills that will help them excel in future years of schooling.
My Project
My student "media center" consist of two tables amidst the chaos of a PreK learning environment. Students use the computers on a daily basis to work on pre-reading skills, math skills, attending skills, and basic navigation of the computer. The headphones will help the students concentrate in order to maximize the time spent on the computer. The building blocks and the white boards will help them develop their fine motors skills.
