Help me give my students the items they need to grow independence. A coffee machine (to use for a coffee cart business), velcro, lamination, and timers are a few of the needed items :)
I teach special education classes including life skills, personal development, history, math, and English at a suburban high school in Centreville, Virginia for students with intellectual disabilities from age 14-22. Despite the many challenges my students face each and every day, they do so with a smile. They work hard to learn new things and are proud of their achievements. I work hard to promote each student's independence, which is especially critical as they begin the transition to post graduation.
My Project
Independence is so important for my students. The materials requested will help me be able to create items that they can use to develop their reading, writing, math, and life skills. Lamination allows me to create materials that can be used over and over again, similar to velcro. Other items like the coffee machine can help us start out coffee cart business to teach students money skills, communication, responsibilities, and career skills such as taking inventory, stocking the cart, and ordering supplies. I know my students will be able to take the materials given to use them to grow in independence.
