Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My classroom is filled with brilliant, curious, and active students. Westover Elementary is a small, close knit school in a quiet Silver Spring neighborhood. My students come in a a wide range of background knowledge on various topics. Their natural curiosity leads them into reading, researching, or exploring to learn more.

What really sets our school apart from other schools is our unique diversity.

In my classroom alone there are at least 13 different countries represented. Having such a wide range of diversity and curiosity leads to me having a wonderfully unique group of first graders.

My Project

Often times, classrooms are provided funding for large items such as computers, textbooks, furniture, etc. However, there are many other items that are needed to help the make everything flow in the classroom. Since these smaller items are not always provided by the district, teachers often spend their own money to purchase basic items for the classroom All of the items listed on this project will help our classroom community run smoothly. The Echo Buttons will be used in conjunction with our Echo dot to play review games. The plastic drawers will be used to house our unique Wallaby Tags (also known as Brag Tags). I create personalized tags to give out to students that display a growth mindset, grit, kindness, perseverance, etc. The dry erase pockets will be used for independent work time during literacy and math centers. The lightening cables will be used to create a charging station for our iPads.

As previously mentioned, my students are smart, curious and active.

These are relatively small items but they will make a large impact in our classroom. These items will help my students continue to freely work in a safe, welcoming, and inspiring classroom environment.
