My students need leveled fiction and nonfiction texts to practice comprehension skills and they also need binders, card stock, tabs and sheet protectors to make and organize new math and reading centers.
My class is full of bright, inquisitve students who come to school each day excited and ready to learn. We leave our problems at the door and immerse ourselves in fun, structured, educational activities throughout the day.
First grade is a challenging time for many students and I strive to make my class a welcoming, safe and comfortable environment for them to learn and grow in.
All my students receive free breakfast and lunch. We are an interdistrict school in an inner city. 70% of my students are from low income families. We are a diverse group and each student brings something important to our class.
My Project
Text based questions are a big part of reading and writing within the common core as well as many of the benchmark tests students are required to take 3 times a year by our school district. We need fiction and nonfiction texts of different levels that we can use to learn and practice how to answer text based questions. Using these same texts we can also learn and practice many different comprehension skills needed to be successful first graders. The books I am asking for will provide us with exactly what we need.
First graders are enthusiastic learners with a desire to investigate, ask questions, explore, play and experiment.
Learning centers give them opportunities to learn and grow through interactive experiences. Strategies and skills such as making decisions, cooperating, and problem solving are needed for firsties to become successful, independent learners. Center time allows them to learn and use these skills while practicing important math and reading concepts. With the card stock, binders, tabs and sheet protectors I am asking for I will be able to make many new learning centers and organize them in a very kid-friendly manner.
