Our students are comprised of both special education and reverse mainstreaming preschoolers on a Marine Corps. Base. Aside from having to relocate approximately every 2-3 years and having a parental figure leave for an assignment on average 6-8 months a year, these students are also in a Title I school.
Instead of encountering more challenges during their early childhood (ages: 3-5) stage of life, I'd like to create a nurturing and accommodating environment that is accessible for ALL of my students!
My Project
Our preschool special education students will get the chance to explore the Ocean Institute's Undersea ABC's Lab. At this modified lab, they will be able to access a variety of sea creatures with the special accommodations for our special education population. Each student will be able to experience modified tide pools, kelp forests and sandy bottom animals in their aquariums. Through this interactive program, our students will also learn language art skills such as the alphabets.
Allowing the students a hands-on activity through various ocean activities gives the students a new vessel towards learning both environmental science and language arts.
