Every student in my third grade class has a unique set of strengths. I love how they use them to help each other out. They also enjoy being together in our classroom. I often have someone tell me on a Friday that they 'wish they could come to school on the weekends'.
My students are growing into increasingly confident learners, they enjoy working together to pose questions and find their own answers.
I am so proud of the effort and hard work I observe in my classroom every day!
My Project
Every day my students dive into language arts lessons from a rigorous program. One week they might be comparing their day to a child that lived in Ancient Rome. Another week they are rewriting the ending to a classic tale we studied. During the first semester, my students grew to become experts at using the glossary in their readers to find vocabulary words. I am proud to say they want more: more vocabulary, more definitions, more synonyms -more words!
Dictionaries will help my students grow their vocabulary, check their spelling, enhance their writing, and give them the confidence to find answers independently.
A range of dictionary formats means that all my students have access to a tool that will support their learning. The large dictionaries will be used for class-wide reference and for practicing dictionary skills in a small group setting. Pocket dictionaries or thesauruses can be quickly grabbed and taken to a table or carpet for vocabulary word study or text editing.
