My Students

Showing a student what 30 grams of fat looks like has a greater impact than reading about it. My students need to see and feel the material to help them understand.

My students are primarily high school freshmen in California.

Our high school has a population of about 2400 students. We have an active student body with students involved in music, sports and many club activities. Budget cuts have made extracurricular activities difficult, but we have a very supportive community which has helped maintain programs.

My Project

I would like my students to see that what they put in their bodies will have a vital impact on their health. The lipo visuals kit will allow students to see how much fat and sugar is in some of their favorite foods. The death of an artery model shows how arteries build up plaque over time will help students understand heart disease and diabetes develop from poor nutrition choices. The blood pressure monitors will allow students to check their own blood pressure and develop a better understanding of how blood pressure is affected. My hope is my students will have healthy productive lives and what they do now matters.

Healthy kids equal healthy adults and families.

Ultimately if we all understood how nutrition affects our overall health, we would have a reduction in diseases and a much more productive and happy community.
