These students have a lot of factors that impede their learning due to financial status, housing situations, parental support at home and other factors they may be challenged with in the community.
But, they do their best to focus in school and on their learning when they enter the classroom.
This group of fourth grade students are working on consistently being self-directed learners by focusing on their work and managing their time efficiently. They work very hard and strive to produce quality work. They collaborate together and assist each other when academic or social help is needed. We are all constantly working on ways we can improve whether it is academic, social, or behavioral. As a class, we discuss ways we can be better citizens and work towards our goal. They are truly a spectacular bunch of kids!
My Project
"There is no such thing as a kid who hates reading. There are just kids who love reading, and kids who are reading the wrong books. We need to help them find the right books." ~James Patterson
After being inspired by Stephanie Harvey and Annie Ward's book, "From Striving to Thriving", I am inspired to ensure access and choice of books to my students.
To encourage and promote the LOVE of reading, I am requesting books for students to read during independent reading time. As the authors mention providing adequate independent reading time, I am making it a goal for this upcoming year to do so. During this time, students need high-interest books at their reading level. I would like to add series such as the Sports Illustrated for Kids Graphic Novels, Captain Underpants, Laugh-Out-Loud Jokes, and The Baby-Sitters Club Graphic Novels to my classroom library. Since students love current series, I hope to fill missing books from the Branches series such as The Notebook of Doom, Dragon Masters, Owl Diaries, Kung Pow Chicken, The Last Hawk and the Magic School Bus Rides again.
Your contribution will help foster the love of reading and assist me in meeting the needs of my students. This project will make reading more enjoyable and learning more accessible. Thank you for taking the time to help our classroom!
