Help me give my students an opportunity to grow our established community garden with birdhouses, a greenhouse, and a compost to nurture our Colorado soil.
Our school is a project-based learning school, where students solve real-world problems through projects that cover all subjects. In addition, we teach Project Lead the Way, which helps to emphasize problem-solving skills that lead to success. The kids are excited to learn through these hands-on approach methods.
We are a multi-diverse elementary school with close to or above 50% free and reduced-cost lunch recipients.
Our neighborhoods vary in income levels, therefore, it is difficult to ask parents to provide extended supplies for their students. The school is always looking for extra monies to cover technology and other supplemental materials that are too expensive for parents to buy.
My Project
As a part of our upcoming project based learning opportunity, my students have been tasked to discover how they can eliminate their carbon footprint and move towards helping our planet. My students have split up into groups and each group has come up with their own idea on how to move forward with helping mother nature.
My students are excited for their next project and to begin healing our planet.
One group has decided to make birdhouses for the community garden. Another group would like to create a greenhouse in order to help our school and community grow fruits and vegetables year round. We will discuss the importance of composting for the garden and create a compost. I am excited to see the outcome of these wonderful ideas.
