My preschool classroom is part of the Great Start Readiness Program. This is a state-funded grant program. I have 16 diverse students in my classroom each year. My students are all at-risk students either due to low-income or other factors such as being English Language Learners or having Speech and Language delays. There are many different ethnicities within my student population as well. My goal is to get each and every one of my students ready for Kindergarten each year.
My Project
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? A firefighter? A doctor? Imagination is vital as a child. My students need new dress-up costumes to enhance their imaginations and role-play. This play helps extend what the student's learn from read aloud stories, small group, and large group activities. It also increases their cognitive skills and language skills while they are engaging in pretend play. In addition, these dress-up costumes will help nurture their social skills with other children. In a time when there is such a push to have kids grow up so fast, imaginative play couldn't be more important. Please help my preschool students experience imaginative role-play and have fun while they are still kids!
