I am a first year teacher about to start the school year. I am so excited to meet my 28-30 Kindergarteners in a few short weeks. I will be working at a Hmong charter school in Milwaukee.
For many of these students, English is not their first language.
Also, 93% of students come from economically disadvantaged house holds. As an English major myself, I love to read. I am getting my Masters Degree in Early Literacy. I want to ignite the love of reading in my students from an early age. I would love to provide them all sorts of different genres and characters to learn and love. A goal of mine is to mold a generation of children who are excited about reading!
My Project
I am a first year teacher about to start the school year. I want to spark the love of reading in my students from an early age, but because there is no teacher budget at my school, my classroom preparation and materials are coming out of my pocket. I want to create a diverse and interesting class library for my students to discover new characters, new genres, and new stories to get excited about. These books such as the Piggy and Elephant books and Pete the Cat are instantly becoming some all time favorites of young children. Even I have began to love these characters. I would so greatly appreciate any help giving my students these incredible books to read and love.
