Help me give my students the chance to have books in their hands so they can experience the love of reading and also be able to share with their siblings.
My students are all from a very low socioeconomic background and English is their second language. They have not been introduced to reading at an early age like they should be, so I am trying to show them the love of reading and at the same time help them establish a library of books that they can share with their siblings.
I remember getting hooked on a series of books as a child.
Thinking of the anticipation and excitement I felt waiting for and then finally reading the the next book. I want my students to have this love for reading. As they progress to the upper grades, I want them to have the love for reading and to share it within their households.
If I can place a book or books in my students hands each month, I feel like I am planting a seed for their household to have a love fro reading.
My Project
Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our school library to check out high-quality books. Each day students inquire when the newest books by their favorite authors will be added to the library and if they can be first to check out these books.
There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in our school and I am trying to establish this library in my classroom so they will be able to take these books home and share with siblings.
My students are all from low economic home situations and books and reading are presented or available to them. This makes it hard when they come to school and some of them have never had a book in their hands to look at or to read/be read too.
