My Pre-K classroom is comprised of students ages 3-5 years old. All of my students have varying special needs. Several students are English Language Learners. These students come from Latin American countries. Most of the students have communication needs. Everyone in my classroom has strengths and uniqueness! We have the incredible opportunity to learn new things together and learn from each other.
Many of my students have a difficult time staying on task and transitioning from one activity to another.
I promote social skills and positive behavior management throughout our day. We celebrate the success of classmates, no matter how big or small!
Our school is located within a low-income housing neighborhood. Half of my class is eligible for the free or reduced-price lunch program. Three students live in multi-generational households.
My students love Biology! They love anything that moves and grows! We are always on the lookout for new bugs and caterpillars. We are proud of our new classroom fish and plants. Students love to harvest our vegetables and smell the herbs.
I am constantly on the lookout for new ways to motivate students in my very busy Pre-K classroom!
My Project
Preschool children learn through play and investigation. Some students can learn simply by oral repetition or visual observation.
However, my students also need to touch materials to acquire academic skills.
Daily the students and I recite; "We must see with our eyes, listen with our ears, speak with our mouths and touch with our fingers.. so we can learn new things."
"Number and Counting Theme box" will help students to touch and manipulate objects to count. They will be able to feel numerals to help with number formation. Likewise, Tactile upper and lowercase letter cards will help my students "feel" the formation of the letter as they say the letter name and see the visual letter.
