My students are a very diverse group of children with one thing in common; they all attend an urban, public Montessori school. Eighty-one percent of the students qualify for free lunch and 88% of the students are a racial minority.
We follow the teachings of Maria Montessori to meet the needs of the whole child - physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually through following and allowing the child to guide his or her learning.
I am fortunate to be in a school that sees music as an integral part of the child's development and encourages musical growth and expression.
At the end of every preschool and kindergarten music class I sing a book to the students. My students LOVE this as part of our class routine and look forward to it every class. I love how the books introduce my students to new musicians and styles of music, as well as letting them hear the "classic" poems and songs that have been around for generations. Some of these "classics" are even new to my students!
I know that my students will love these new books as part of our class routine!
Help me keep the nursery rhymes we grew up with alive by through these books!
