My students need hands-on, concrete manipulatives to grasp concepts of numbers and operations, fractions, and decimals. Numbers need to come to life for my students for optimum results.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in a low-income area. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My students learn and grow with hands on experience.
All of my students have different types of learning disabilities which make learning and accessing the math curriculum difficult for them.
My 3rd-5th graders have difficulty with number sense, fractions, and decimals. My K-2nd graders have great difficulty with various ways of skip counting, base ten operations, etc.
My resource program does not get any budget to purchase any hands-on or necessary materials/games to provide effectively for their learning. Despite the lack of resources, I try my best to provide meaningful learning opportunities for them.
My Project
One, two, ... fifty six, ... one hundred ninety eight..., five sixths, three and eight tenths; count on, skip count by two's, ten's, simplify fractions, find decimal equivalents, and ...!
To many mathematical reasoning comes naturally, but for my students counting by ones or skip counting by many, manipulating fractions, and understanding what equivalent numbers are need to come to life for optimum learning.
Having the base ten templates and the fraction and decimal activity kits would spruce up my classroom's limited teaching tools at my disposal. These materials will pave the way to explain the "how and the why" and expose my students in a more concrete manner to the complexities of the mathematical world.
