My Students

Our school community is comprised of diverse learners from a plethora of cultural backgrounds. There are at least 30 different languages spoken by families at this school. The school is located in a high poverty area, and the all students receive a free lunch. Our school strives to positively support our student learners.

Students in my class are learning how to be inclusive, responsible and respectful, in addition to all of the academic curriculum.

My students work hard all day to learn.

My Project

Quick, daily math talks are becoming common place in every classroom. My students would benefit from this practice as well. The Daily Math Fluency Kit will provide a resource for making this happen. Currently, I struggle to find the write sequence, ideas and problems to discuss. Through this kit, the students will be exposed to a full array of number talks and chains that will encourage their math fluency.

By 5th grade students should be fluent in Multiplication and Division of basic facts, the hard truth is that they are not.

So many spend too much time thinking about factors when we are finding equivalent fractions that they are missing the big ideas associated with fractions.
