Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from many different areas of the world. In my world language classes, some of them are learning a third or fourth language while still in the process of learning English. I am inspired by their abilities to adapt to new situations, their willingness to learn, work collaboratively and their interest in learning about different cultures as well as sharing their own.

While high school students are no longer required to study a foreign language in order to graduate, these students show a genuine desire to learn about other cultures and languages.

My Project

Language learning is difficult for many students. Using TPRS readers help build comprehension and proficiency while increasing their confidence. It is wonderful to see a student who thinks that they aren’t capable of learning a new language, read a book and realize that they can understand almost everything in the stories. Building a library for my classes is a very expensive endeavor, however with the help we have received from the generous donors, we have begun to slowly build an impressive library. These donations will help me to acquire class sets of novels so that we can read them together.
