Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Math curriculum digs more in depth every year. Along with the increase in technology, our students need every advantage we can give them to stay competitors in world education.
My students are 9th through 12th grade students at an alternative high school in Georgia.
For many of my students, the traditional high school did not fit their needs and, for some, this is their last chance at a high school education. I have very dedicated students. They have made the choice to attend and are willing to work hard to succeed.
My Project
This is my third step to acquiring a class set of TI Nspire handhelds. Calculator technology has come a long way and provides incredible opportunities. These calculators are almost computers. In the world of fast paced video games, educational materials are sometimes lacking and these calculators make a world of difference.
The TINspire calculators have the capability of receiving assignments, sending them back completed, giving students a workspace to create geometric figures, spreadsheets of data and instant feedback on progress. My students will use the calculators to investigate triangle and circle relationships through interactive programs.
I believe technology is an important tool and resource for teachers.
All students will use some sort of technology after they graduate from high school and I want to introduce as much as I can to my students. Also, the curriculum we are teaching involves higher level mathematics and it is more engaging and enlightening for students to see how it all ties together with this technology.
