My students need a professional food slicer, Panini and sandwich press, smoothie maker, electric yogurt maker, ice cream maker, juice extractor and a single electric burner.

When I first offered my students a reward for accumulating table points, they all asked for salad. They could have had anything, but they wanted salad. Third-graders – go figure! That was the start of what we now call "The Friday Café.” Each Thursday we vote on which healthy snack we want to prepare the next day. Then, we find a recipe and make a list of the ingredients we need. Each student selects one item to bring, and during our recess and lunch periods, we have fun get-togethers and share the delicious food that we make. We haven’t just stopped at salad. We have discovered that yogurt is even better than ice cream, when mixed with fresh fruit and homemade granola. My students love to bring in delicious tropical fruit, which we turn into smoothies, and you'd be surprised what an impact a simple Panini had on a recent field trip. Now, not a day goes by without one of them asking when we are going to have Paninis again. They eat it all up – vegetables and all, but better yet, they clean up everything afterwards. These kids do not come from wealthy families. Some are struggling just to get by. The fact that they want these healthy treats, instead of chips and soda has moved me more than you could imagine. My goal now is to add to the “kitchen” in my classroom to allow us to prepare any recipe that strikes our fancy. My students have expressed an interest in inviting friends from other classes to participate in the fun, and we have already invited their parents in to share some of the dishes from their homelands. What a fantastic incentive to promote good behavior and harmony in our school. It is also a great way to foster social interaction and get parents involved in their children's education. We have acquired a nice collection of donated utensils, but some of the appliances that we've been using have seen better days. Our blender is missing its top, our tabletop burner shorts out at the least convenient times and for some reason, our ice cream maker doesn’t freeze anymore. That is why I am counting on your generosity to fund this proposal. When all is said and done, you will have helped furnish our classroom kitchen with a Professional Food Slicer, Panini & Sandwich Press, Smoothie Maker, Electric Yogurt Maker, Ice Cream Maker, Juice Extractor and a Single Electric Burner.
