My students need to be able to see examples of what I am presenting on the large screen. The IPEVO document camera will enable my classes better access to the information I am presenting.
Our small K-6 public school is over 40 years old, close to two military bases and many of my wonderful students are deemed at-risk. All of them qualify for free breakfast and lunch, but we are not a Title I school. As a result, we lack the resources and opportunities of other schools in our area. According to the last US Census, the average per capita income in our area was 1/3 below the city average. The population around our neighborhood school is changing and our children are caught in this pocket of poverty.
Although my students represent the very best in America, they don't have the funds for school supplies, books or field trip fees, but they still want to learn.
My student population is racially and ethnically diverse. It is 39% Anglo; 14% African-American/Black; 16% Alaskan Native and American Indian; 7% Asian; 6% Hispanic; 3% Filipino; 15% multiracial. 20% of our students are in bilingual/ELL programs, Indian Education or SPED programs. We have students from Somalia, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, as well as Natives from rural Alaska.
My Project
"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." Confucius.
Our library needs a new document camera so that all students have visual access to lessons.
My current document camera is broken and the school does not have funds to replace it. Students benefit from being able to see a large projected image of texts and teacher modeling.
As the librarian, I see every child in our school and promote literacy and teach STREAM lessons. I use my document camera every day with students to model reading strategies, exemplify activity procedures, share texts, and display student examples.
