Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are inner-city students from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. All students are receiving either free lunch. All the district level 1 and level 2 ELL population attend this school. The school population is just over 1,000 students. My students work well in small groups and have created some incredible presentations using the limited technology we have available to us.
My students are eager to learn and are able to do a great job, they are visual learners and need research skills for the future.
My fellow 8th grade history teachers and I try to put all our kids together for larger projects 2-3 times a year. Students enjoy working with other teachers and other students. This approach allows them to be creative in their projects.
My Project
From April through June all RPMS 8th grade students will be working in groups to complete a Project Based Learning (PBL) assignment on World War II. Students will be analyzing sources, finding credible evidence, and ultimately designing/creating a tri-board that displays all of their research. Students will be researching topics such as Pearl Harbor, D-Day, The Holocaust, leaders such as FDR and Patton, the War in the Pacific, women in the war, the impact of minorities in the war and much more! The 8th grade students will be analyzing what lessons can be learned from WWII while also learning essential skills that will assist them in their future endeavors.
This PBL assignment is student-centered and will encourage students to be creative, collaborate with their peers, and communicate effectively.
The requested presentation triboards will allow our 8th grade students to display their information in a professional manner. The students will be presenting these projects to their peers, teachers, administrators, and important community members. These supplies will help our students feel confident and proud of their tri-board as they present their findings. Help us make sure these horrible events are never repeated with these important presentation boards!
