Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I could not be more excited to be starting my second year as a Kindergarten teacher in Chicago's West Englewood neighborhood. I had an amazing first year with my energetic students, who enjoyed creating a grocery store, growing butterflies, and meeting Cinderella through the support of DonorsChoose grants. I look forward to using this incredible resource to bring memorable learning experiences to my new students. I am lucky to teach in a Chicago Public School that values balanced literacy, and the resources I am requesting will help my students develop their oral language, conflict resolution, and storytelling skills. Early this year, we began role-playing classroom problems and possible solutions. My students have become efficient problem solvers, and the puppet theater will be the perfect venue for extending these skills. I also look forward to using the theater to encourage the development of early literacy skills with my students. The Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, and The Three Billy Goats Gruff storytelling kits will provide perfect opportunities for small group literacy experiences. I can't wait to see my students dramatize these favorite stories with the enthusiasm they bring to everything they try! Thanks in advance for the consideration.
